Continue ShoppingWhat is powder coating?
Powder coating is a way to colour metals like steel and aluminium, typically used because it has a longer lasting and tough finish. Powder coating involves a high quality dry surface finishing process, found on a wide array of products in industrial finishing market. The process offers a durable finish allowing for maximised production, improved efficiencies and environmental compliances.
The nature of the powder coating process and application works by applying powder to the metal surface. The powder is applied electrostatically using a power gun; this means that it is sprayed on using compressed air, passing an electrode in the gun. The powder-coated part is then placed into an oven to cure so that the finish can set on the object. The polymer resin within the powder begins to adhere with heat on the surface of the part, resulting in a thick coating that is incredibly durable compared to other surface finishes.
What are the benefits of powder coating?
The main benefit that powder coating offers over liquid paint is its ability to provide high quality durability both for internal and external use, whilst still providing an attractive finish.
Powder coated products are more resistant to impact, moisture, chemicals, light, and extreme weather conditions. It reduces the risk of scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and other wear issues.
We offer additional functional elements in the powders for benefits such as anti-slip, fire resistant and hygiene properties such as anti-microbial, antibacterial to help prevent the spread of germs.
In addition to being durable, powder coating also offers a number of environmental advantages including reduced waste and less chemicals.
What type of chemistry do you offer?
We can manufacture the following:
Polyester Powder has excellent mechanical properties. Polyester powders have been formulated to give hard, durable finishes with very good light and weather resistance properties. This powder is highly recommended for exterior use.
Epoxy Powders have excellent chemical resistance but moderate mechanical properties. These are suitable for indoor use, where high gloss retention on components for exterior exposure is required.
Epoxy Polyester powders provide a tough, durable coating with excellent resistance to corrosion and mechanical damage.
What are the gloss levels?
Matt– 30%
Semi-gloss – 60%
Gloss – 90%
Are your powders anti-gassing?
All our stock products have the anti-gassing additive already added. If you require the made to order products to be anti-gassing please let us know when placing the order. The benefit of anti-gassing powders is that they are eco-friendly, stain, chemical and scratch resistant.
What type of finishes and effects do you offer?
We offer the following:
Anti-gassing
Anti-slip
Anti-bacterial
Anti-microbial
Fire resistant/retardant
Lacquers
Leatherette
Nylon modified
Primers
Ripple
Texture
Are your powders architectural grade?
All our products are manufactured using architectural grade resin.
What temperatures should we bake at?
Gloss and semi-gloss products should be 10’ @ 180 °C.
Matt products should be 10’ @ 200 °C.
What is ripple effect?
The ripple effect also known as leatherette, can be used for objects such as garden furniture and handrails. This effect can also be used to correct small imperfections. The ripple effect can be used for internal and external use due to the outdoor durability.
How much does 1 kg of powder cover?
On average 1 kg will cover around 8 to 10 square metres.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
When ordering a stock product, you can order as little as 5 kgs.
When placing a made to order product there is a minimum order quantity of 5 kgs but please bear in mind the +/-10% yield during manufacturing on all made to order products.
Do you have panel samples?
We offer panel samples in any finish at a charge of £35 a panel. The sizes of our sample panels are 12 ½ CM by 7 ½ CM.
Can you match a sample panel?
Our production team will be able to match a sample panel if the paint is readable. We unfortunately cannot match a colour off the screen.
What is Zinc Rich Primer used for?
This can be used to protect steel surfaces from rust and corrosion. This would be applied before powder paint.
What are lacquers used for?
Lacquers are commonly used for alloys. As the lacquer protects the alloys against UV damage, light scratches, and wash marks. Without the lacquer the surfaces will be at risk of chipping and scratching.
What are the benefits of using primers?
Primers increase the resistance against corrosion and chemicals. Therefore, primer is used in conditions where corrosion is likely to occur such as coastal environments, areas of high humidity and harsh weather.
What are the benefits of Nylon Modified powders?
Nylon modified is high in corrosion resistance, which increases its durability for outdoor use. This can be used on surfaces such as metal fences and handrails. Nylon modified is hard wearing therefore resistant to scuffing, scratching and abrasion.
What are the benefits of Antimicrobial powder?
It helps to minimise the risk of transfer of bacterial and prevents bacteria from regrowth on a surface. It helps to prevent the spread of germs and is ECO friendly TGIC free.
